Our veterinary team follows a strict protocol to ensure your pet’s procedure is safe and successful. From when your pet arrives for their procedure to when their surgery is over, we prioritize your pet’s comfort and care. Even after the surgery, we follow up to ensure they’re healing properly. 

What types of surgeries do you perform? 

Our veterinary team performs a variety of procedures, including soft tissue surgeries. Soft tissue surgeries can range from minimally invasive procedures to those that are more complex. During these procedures, we operate on areas of your pet’s body that don’t include bones, joints, muscles, or the nervous system. Some soft tissue procedures include: 

• Gastrointestinal surgery
• Heart surgery
• Tumour removal 
• Foreign object removal 
• Urinary tract repair 

What do pre-surgery procedures include? 

Before the day of your pet’s surgery, we’ll do bloodwork to determine their overall health as well as assess how they’ll respond to anesthesia. If we decide your pet isn’t fit for surgery, we won’t perform the procedure. Our veterinary team will review preparation and expectations before your pet’s appointment, giving you a chance to ask any questions or share concerns. For example, depending on the procedure, we’ll let you know if your pet needs to fast beforehand. 

Does my pet need special care after surgery? 

After the procedure, you need to follow our post-operative care instructions closely. For example, you should regularly check your pet’s incisions to ensure they don’t get infected. Signs of infection include shaking, hiding, drooling, swelling, bleeding, vomiting and diarrhea. If you notice these symptoms after a procedure, please contact us immediately at 604-427-2744.
