Dental Care Services for Pets

Regular brushing and routine cleanings can help prevent gum disease. Contact us for more details.

Regular brushing isn’t a step that should be missed in your pet’s at-home regimen. Routine cleanings should also be a part of your pet’s veterinary visits. When your pet’s teeth aren’t cleaned properly, bacteria and plaque can build up, causing long-lasting damage. To book your pet’s next dental appointment, please contact us at 604-427-2744.

Is bad breath normal?

Though your pet’s breath will naturally have an odour, the smell shouldn’t be reclusive or incredibly stinky. Smelly breath can be a sign of improper oral hygiene or gum disease. When plaque and tartar team up with bacteria in your pet’s mouth, they can create bad breath. When this buildup isn’t properly removed, it can get into your pet’s bloodstream, causing health complications throughout their body. The best way to properly remove this is with a professional dental cleaning. Before your pet’s appointment, we’ll do pre-anesthesia testing to ensure your pet’s body will respond well to the medication.

How are my pet’s teeth cleaned during their appointment?

First, we perform a physical examination to assess your pet’s teeth. Any broken or loose tooth may need to be removed. Our veterinary technician will administer anesthesia before the teeth cleaning process begins. During your pet’s cleaning, X-rays determine gum health not visible to the naked eye. We scale your pet’s teeth, removing plaque and tartar below the gum line that at-home cleaning can’t reach. We also polish their teeth to decrease future buildup after their appointment.

What happens if plaque buildup isn’t removed?

Plaque buildup can cause gum disease. Gum disease is fairly common in pets, causing their gums to wear away. Depending on your pet, noticeable signs of the disease aren’t apparent until its later stages. Some signs include:

  • Brown or yellow teeth
  • Loose teeth
  • Bleeding gums
  • Excessive drooling
  • Weight loss
