New Years Resolutions

Take Your Pets to a Vet For a Regular Check-up. Some pets are very good at hiding illness (especially cats!), so you might not know something is wrong until it becomes more serious. Bringing your pet in for regular check-ups keeps them healthier and reduces the chance of a major problem later on.

Make Your Pet Part of Your Own New Years Resolutions. Many people choose ‘be more active’ and ‘lose weight’ as personal resolutions and the great news is that your pets can help with each of them! Dogs love going for walks and playing in the park. You’ll both be healthier and happier.

Keep Your Pet ID Up-To-Date. Unfortunately, this often gets over-looked until your pet goes missing and the collar tag, ear tattoo or microchip doesn’t match your current address. We highly recommend micro-chipping as a cost effective and non-surgical way to help ensure that your pet gets returned if lost.

Be Prepared. If one of your New Years resolutions is to prepare a disaster emergency plan and kit, make sure to include your pet. A week's worth of medications, food, and enough water should be included. For more information for you and your pets, read our Emergency Preparedness For Pets blog where you can also download a free copy of our Checklist.

An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure. Making sure that vaccines, flea prevention and de-worming are all up-to-date is important. Your Vet will be able to put together an easy and effective prevention plan that is appropriate for your pet and lifestyle.  Also, brushing your pets teeth regularly is very important to their overall health.

Support Your Local Animal Shelter. There are so many ways to help support animal care and protection in our community. Shelters can always use more financial support, but you can also give of your time and talents through volunteering, fostering animals, and raising awareness through social media.  To find out how you can help some amazing local organizations, visit Langley Animal Protection Society, TinyKittens and BC SPCA to name a few.

Wishing you a wonderful year filled with love and laughter.
